Ausgangspunkt dieses zeichnerischen Forschungsprojekts ist das Ornat des heiligen Valerius von Saragossa. Es handelt sich um vier religiöse Gewänder aus Spanien, die im 13. Jahrhundert von Muslimen gewebt, einem im 4. Jahrhundert verstorbenen katholischen Heiligen gewidmet sind. Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhundert wurden von diesen Gewändern mehr als 200 Fragmente abgetrennt und auf den Kunstmarkt gebracht. Diese Stofffragmente sind heute auf 25 Sammlungen und Museen weltweit verteilt.

Diese Arbeit entsteht in Korrespondenz zur Abegg-Stiftung (Riggisberg, Schweiz),
sie wird an der Graduiertenschule für die Künste und die Wissenschaften der UdK realisiert und von der Einsteinstiftung (Berlin) finanziert.

This drawing research project emerged from the vestments of Saint Valerius of Saragossa. These consist of four religious robes from Spain, woven in the thirteenth century by Muslims and dedicated to a Catholic Saint who died in the fourth century. At the beginning of the twentieth century, these medieval robes were cut up into more than 200 fragments for the art market. Today, they are conserved in 25 collections and museums all around the world.

The project exists only due to initial inspiration by and support from the Abegg Foundation in Riggisberg, Switzerland.
It will be realized at the Graduate School for the Arts and Sciences at the University of the Arts, Berlin and is financially supported by the Einstein Foundation, Berlin.

Der halbkreisförmige Mantel, das Pluviale, ist eines der vier Gewänder. Von diesem wurde ein Streifen am Rand abgeschnitten und zerkleinert. Die Fragmente befinden sich in den untenstehenden Museen.

The semicircular mantle, the pluvial, is one of the four garments. A strip was cut off the edge of this and crushed into small pieces. The fragments can be found in the museums listed below.
